What a Saturday Morning at Village Farm Actually Looks Like

There’s a version of this post that lists the amenities.

Pool. Farmers market. Community gardens. Dog parks. 120-year-old farmhouse. USDA certified organic farm. Fire pits. A jacuzzi. More.

But amenity lists don’t tell you what a place actually feels like. So instead, here’s a Saturday morning at Village Farm.

It starts early if you want it to. The farmers market opens Saturday mornings, and Green Gate Farms, the USDA certified organic farm that Village Farm is built around, is at its best in the morning light. Local vendors set up alongside the farm’s own produce. The kind of market where you recognize the faces after a few weeks and start to feel like a regular.

Green Gate Farms has been operating since 2006 and offers a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program for Village Farm residents and the greater Austin community. The vision has always been to cultivate an organic farm that feeds the mind, body, and soul, and on a Saturday morning, that intention is easy to feel.

By mid-morning, the community garden is usually occupied. Village Farm has raised gardening beds located throughout the property. Some residents grow herbs, some grow vegetables, and a few are more ambitious. The garden is one of those places where you end up talking to a neighbor you hadn’t met yet.

The pool gets going later. Austin summers being what they are, a resort-style pool and jacuzzi surrounded by beautifully landscaped sitting areas becomes the social center of the community by early afternoon. Dogs are welcome at the two on-site dog parks, with trails nearby if you’d rather walk. There are also picnic and BBQ areas throughout the community, complete with gas-fired grills and fire pits surrounded by Adirondack chairs for anyone who wants to make an afternoon of it.

And then there’s the farmhouse. A 120-year-old structure that hosts cooking classes, pop-up dinners, community events, and the occasional evening where the whole neighborhood seems to end up on the patio without anyone having planned it.

Your tiny home is 399 square feet. Your life at Village Farm is everything around it.

We have a limited number of homes available now, and new homes arriving for June and July move-in. If a Saturday morning like this one sounds like yours, we’d love to show you around.
